Yeah, UPS in particular used to leave packages in the rental office (in a separate building) for safekeeping but it would have been closed on a Sunday, and with the pandemic it's open by appointment only right now (which means you have to use the rent slot and can't get a receipt without going through a lot of trouble.) The buildings in my apartment complex all had electronic locks just put on (which is ridiculous and just makes everything more of a hassle -- I don't live in the best area but census information says we have below-average crime.) The Post Office has the key so they wouldn't have been locked out (the package on question is USPS.)
The grocery store might be the best bet -- had something similar with UPS a few weeks ago and it turned out they handed it over to their outpost in a CVS without any notice to me. (Learned this the day before they would have returned it!)
I wrote USPS on Sunday (after it was delivered) and gave them three business days to respond and they didn't. Wrote them a second, nasty, letter and the form "we have received your complaint" e-mail said the case was re-opened and escalated. We'll see.
