Forgot how many goddamn characters there were on that show and how few of them I remember by name. This was even a problem for me when I was actively watching the series so it's obviously even more of an issue now. Anyway, there's definitely some disagreements there but rather than nitpick I'll just say that my favorite characters were that House of The Undying Guy (guess his name was Pyat Pree- was genuinely bummed when he kicked the bucket) Cersei, Joffrey and Ramsay (what didn't you like about him? A show like this needs at least one jaw-droopingly evil psychopath and I thought they did a great job with that character).
But as far as individual episodes, battles or even many of the deaths, it's all kind of a blur. And I obviously liked the show more than you did (the idea that you're planning to rewatch it sorta seems like masochism- FWIW I'm gonna rewatch it at some point too but I consider it one of the best shows ever, despite its glaring flaws) but basically agree re: Jon Snow. But I do feel like a big part of the problem is Harrington- he's not a very good actor and never seemed right for the role. But at the same time, I'm used to the hero of a story like this being an empty husk so TBH I didn't really mind- plenty of other good supporting characters which more than make up for Snow's shortcomings IMO.
"What, really, is so great about sitting on the Iron Throne?"
Is this a serious question? I mean, I know it's a fantasy but um you *did* take history classes in school right? Seems like willful ignorance to me but obviously just something you're gonna have to accept if you're gonna watch the show- it's right there in the mother####ing title!
I don't think most fans thought Danaerys goin nutty was "out of character". Yes, it was a bummer but as you point out, it was a cynical show from the beginning and they did plenty of foreshadowing what with her being the daughter of the infamous "mad king" and all. It was just handled so clumsily, just like everything else in the final season (and it's bizarre that while you seem to dislike the series overall more than most you also seem to be defending that awful final season more than I've seen from other folks).
Totally with you re: Arya- once they made her a superhero, I stopped caring. IMO the whole "Faceless Man" plot line was one of the show's lamest.
"Wells the show went back to too many times: horrible rape, pregnant women or babies being killed, and calling Brienne of Tarth ugly."
You are officially an old coot.
