but the bootleg below is the best post-Damo Can recording I've come across. And re: the studio stuff, I don't mind when Can just jams aimlessly- that describes many of their best shows. But there needs to be a sense of purpose and exploration and it's not there, partly due to them suddenly being able to overdub. Compare the version of "Vernal Equinox" from "Landed" (the first album where they used a 16 track) and the version from "Live Box 1971–1977" and notice how relatively sterile it is, and the sterility only increased on the albums that followed.
Yes, the musicianship puts them above standard fusion but those post-Damo albums are still too close to standard fusion to offer much replay value, especially since there's so many classic early albums and bootlegs to choose from.
