Bono, Brian Wilson and particularly Kurt Cobain I find it really difficult to hit the high notes.
However when I was doing some Sparks song in Karaoke I found out that Russell Mael seems to completely fit my vocal range. I don't have much difficulty singing This Town Ain't Big ENough or any other of Sparks songs
I heard people describe him as a counter tenor but I think that is false. This is not like Jon Anderson where he doesn't sing in falsetto but his normal voice is naturally high.
The thing is Russell Mael only actually sounds high because he sings in falsetto all the time. However his normal voice isn't particularly that high. When you listen to his 80's songs when he stopped relying on falsetto voice his voice is not particularly high.
If I try to sing any Nirvana song I have to go and sing in falsetto when Kurt Cobain can sing the same notes in normal voice. Singing Nirvana in falsetto makes it sounds completely ridiculous. Kurt Cobain normal voice is significantly naturally higher pitch vocalist than Russell Mael. Who knows if Kurt Cobain actually tries to sing in falsetto it would be quite ridiculously high.
What makes singing certain vocals difficult is when you are unable to sing the melodies using your normal singing voice and have to rely on falsetto to reach the notes when the original singer can do it without needing falsetto. However when the original song is in falsetto, there really is no difficulties singing the song because you are just replicating the original song.
