It seems like every subsequent Star Trek shows is worst than the previous one since Voyager.
I thought Voyager was disappointing and then Enterprise came along. Then I hated Enterprise and the Abrams prequel came along. Then I hated Abram prequel then Star Trek Discovery came along. After that Star Trek picard which was surprisingly worst that STD and now Lower Decks which is terrible
Although saying that Lower Deck may be worth watching to see a show that is basically openly putting a middle finger to Star Trek Fans. The show basically is saying that Star Trek is boring, people who look up to Star Trek are losers. It's actually interesting to watch because of the sheer contempt it has and I am curious about how far they will go with this.
The last episode I saw starts up promising with some science fiction elements of the crew discovering an ancient relic of a ship and there were technologies from the ship that can instantly terraform and create plant life on planets for to settle. There is the meeting room where people discuss this discovery of this ancient extinct alien civilisation and the potential scientific benefits of this newly discovered technology.
Then the main protagonist of the show Ensign Marriner than start ranting and complaining about how "boring" this is.
Later on Ensign Marriner got promoted to Liutenant (in the idiot plot) and as a result she has to do all the type of things that typical Star Trek episodes do. Such as attending multiple briefing discussing issues, reading reports, playing poker with senior officers and other social groups etc. This was considered hell and torture to her. She was saying stuff like "oh no, not another prime directive discussion" etc
In the end there was some problem with the ship they discovered and then she saved the day and was rewarded. However then she deliberately disrespected an admiral to get herself demoted to an ensign so she doens't have to do typical Star Trek stuff anymore and return back to menial job.
So she is the character that doesn't care about anything of traditional Star Trek values or care about the chain of command. She's too cool for that and she is the action hero that saves the day and doesn't care about all the loser Trek things.
There is another character on the ship, Ensign Purple hair (I can't remember his name) who is basically a true believer of Star Trek who wants to advance his career and finds all the Star Trek things interested and actually wants to eventually become a senior officer in the future. He is the comic relief character who gets insulted, made fun of, bullied by Ensign Marriner throughout the show. Always criticised for being too committed to Starfleet, bookwormish and is protrayed as a loser.
Imagine a show that shows jocks bully Liutenant Barclay and that portrayed as a good thing.
I know this show is supposed to be a parody and satire and defenders of the show will say you shouldn't take it seriously. However what does it say if you are parodying core elements of the show that it's impossible to like Star Trek without appreciating those elements.
It's parodying the idea of enjoying science fiction story, parodying the idea of characters being fascinated with exploring alien culture and new technology. It's parodying the idea of enjoying meetings where people discussed ethical dilemnas.
It's not parodying silly episodes or bad elements of Star Trek it's parodying the core elements of what Star Trek fan actually like the show about.
The message is so transparent that Star Trek sucks and is boring and you fans are losers for liking it.
The funny thing is that the animators of the show seems to be fans of Star Trek as this show looks like Star Trek hell of a lot more than Star Trek Discovery and Picard (even Enterprise). So you got this show that animated authetically like Star Trek but written by people with open absolute contempt for the show.
