Re: Pleasantly surprised for the bolds on Rock Bottom, Talk Talk, and Death Grips (nt)
I'm surprised by liking Death Grips (it is a rap album afterall). It will never loved the album (it's a 11/15, Hex 9) but the album does kick arse. If I find my self head banging to Led Zeppelin riffs or Nine Inch Nails riffs, Death Grips touched the same elements that triggers "kick arse"/head bang like those hard rock albums. The sampled repeating riffs are catchy and thrilling to listen to. However saying that NIN combined the catchy repeating riffs with actually melodic vocals to listen to and Death Grips by definition does not. Which means that I only have an emotionally distant respect for the album instead of thinking this is a Top 100 album of all time love (which this was in the RYM Top 100 album chart)
I do find Rock Bottom to be emotionally gripping album and I do find the atmosphere to be captivating even if it isn't the most catchy album.
I'm not a fan of Talk Talk last two albums (Atmosphere > proper songwriting) however The Colour Of Spring is decent chamber pop album where there is a more balance for me to enjoy. It seems to me that I only like It's My Life and Colour Of Spring by the band. Although I probably will give the last two album a respin soon to see if my opinion change
