Racism disliking someone for the colour of skin
Thatís a very different to disliking an attribute/beliefs/taste that is popular/traditional within that racial group.
Someone can hate rap music and not think it is music and still not be racist.
As there is nothing intrinsic about someone race to adopt any cultural attribute but rather itís a matter of what they are exposed to in childhood. Thereís nothing intrinsic about someone race to like or accept any particular musical style
Similar to someone who hates classical music is not anti-western
I am Vietnamese background. There are elements of Vietnamese culture I accept and elements that I donít accept (eg astrology which I consider superstitious nonsense) I would hate it if people who criticised astrology to be considered racist purely because it is part of cultural practice. I think part of living in liberal society means that no cultural practice is sacred.
Ben Shapiro is espousing an ideological conflict in what music is about no different to the war of the romantics. Itís people with different philosophy to music battling out in a war of ideas. Just so happen that the war of the romantics is internal conflicts while ďrap music isnít musicĒ is a cross-cultural battle and valid in a liberal society.
Demanding someone to appreciate cultural differences (as opposed to tolerating it) is like asking people not to have conflicts based on ideological/political differences. It is really impossible ask. Itís reasonable to not asked people to have conflicts based on colour of skin but itís not reasonable to avoid conflicts based on values, beliefs, ideology and sometimes those beliefs, values amd ideology are more prominent in some racial groups compare to other groups
