Oh and re: third stream
The "Jazz Abstractions/Golden Striker" twofer is always something I recommend when trying to get classical fans into jazz- recommended it to Tabs when he first started listening to jazz and I think wound up sending to him via Dropbox? But anyway, they're pretty different. Lewis doesn't perform on the first at all- really a project by arranger Gunther Schuller (who played French horn on. "Birth of the Cool" FWIW) but the arrangements are really cool and it has an amazing assortment of musicians- Coleman, Dolphy, Evans, Hall. The 2nd is a bunch of Italian ballet-inspired Lewis pieces arranged for a group of brass players- trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas. Very dramatic and almost Zappaesque so you might not like it but I do. Highlights below.
