Re: "Electric Ladyland" came out 2 years before Jimi died
My parents were conservative-Christian enough that I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons or MTV, not that that was even a thing since we didn't have cable until the late '90s. When I was getting into music I had to sneak home ...And Justice for All in the waistband of my pants from the mall, and got shut down for wanting to buy Ultima XIII: Pagan (probably because that was a terrible game that would have warped my view of the series). They wouldn't let me play Dungeons and Dragons (again, probably a good thing). The struggle was ####ing real.
But yeah, it definitely sucks having that kind of parents. It does force you to be creative in going over to your friend's all the time to listen to Green Day or play Mortal Kombat. Somewhere around 1998 my parents just stopped caring about this stuff BTW. (The first Mortal Kombat seems quaint and it was funny to see it cause such an uproar, but they've just plugged along. The fatalities from the latest MK games are disgusting and really raise questions about the kind of people who play them.)
