When I was younger, I had to argue with my parents re: "In Utero" because of "Rape Me" and similarly, re: the Ren & Stimpy episode "Stimpy's Fan Club" because of the scene where Ren fantasizes about murdering Stimpy in his sleep. In both cases, they conceded partly because they realized how important both Nirvana and "Ren & Stimpy" were to me (my favorite band and TV show at the time).
I also bought "The Downward Spiral" when it came out and played "Closer" for my parents, which of course prompted them to take it away from me. My dad's theory is that I knew it was "bad" and felt guilty. He's probably right but that's still gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever done.
Thankfully, my parents loved "The Simpsons" from the very beginning and actually encouraged me to which it, even starting with the shorts on "The Tracey Ullman Show". They probably would have objected to violent video games but I didn't really like those ("Street Fighter"'s about as violent as my favorite games got) and never had any interest in D&D but am sure they would have been fine with that.
