As for New Year's Eve, I don't stay up until Midnight anymore myself. (And I can't even go to bars right now.) And obviously I still drink. But "Trading Places" does a wonderful job of starting before Thanksgiving, soaring through funny antics, and then ending after the new year.
My comment about watching cartoons (and drinking beer) on Labor Day was actually inspired by an old SNL sketch about the "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." holiday, starring Chris Elliot and Tim Meadows. Some white office workers overwhelmed their co-workers with guilt. Meanwhile, the blacks just wanted to get drunk in Atlantic City.
