Pretty sure it was the #1 pick on RYM last time I checked. Anyway, I don't agree (again, the underrated more recent "Born Like This" is my favorite- I'm generally not as enamored with Madlib's production style as most folks seem to be and "Madvillainy" has a good amount of filler IMO) but it was definitely a major release and Doom is definitely worth investigating if you have any interest in post-90's hip hop.
Doom admittedly has a relatively narrow scope both sonically and conceptually (which is maybe partly why his output died up in recent years- though he did lose his son a few years ago so maybe that contributed as well) but within that scope, he's very good at what he does. One of the best voices in hip hop (sounds like someone's gravely voiced disgruntled uncle) and an excellent sampler/producer.
