Most of the songs I listed are just dull/very mediocre album tracks, or rewrites like "Strange Currencies" which is weak because it's such an obvious retread of "Everybody Hurts."
I used to hate "Crush With Eyeliner" and consider it their worst song but now I find it faintly humorous. I've ripped on "Circus Envy" a lot but that's sort of a "so ridiculous that I like listening to it" tune than a bad tune.
If I'm picking an obvious pick for worst R. E. M. song I am now tempted to pick "Nightswimming" which has this rather pukey prom-ballad vibe to it that gets worse to my ears with every passing year, but even that song is not truly *terrible*.
(It should also be noted that R. E. M. had lots of Christmas CDs and fan club songs and other stuff you can read about on the Prindle review page that I really don't think I'm ever going to bother with, even if they are my favorite band. Dead Letter Office was weak enough to make me not feel like bothering with R. E. M.'s rarities. I also am no expert on the band's live performances and don't even really think they were that great live, based on what I've heard.)
If you don't like "Stand," congratulations, the band agrees with you. They hate it, and "Shiny Happy People" too as far as I know.
