Re: I feel like it's their most enduring song
Dookie has a special place in my heart, too. When it came out I was in elementary school, friends with this miscreant who brought the tape over once and we listened to it together. It was the first "adult" rock music I had heard but mostly I was into the cussing (not knowing what masturbation or anything was). Saw R.E.M.'s Green in a shop window not long after and jumped to the totally logical reasoning that "green" meant dirty. No, I had never heard the R.E.M. album. This kid also showed me my first Playboy/naked woman. He took up smoking when he was 11 and he got sent off to "alternative" school for the sixth grade and I never saw him again. Last I heard he was working as a Civil War re-enactor. But damn, that list of singles! You could get Dookie and a greatest hits and put a lid on it (as Joe Biden would say) with some really nice music.
