However Genesis may well be the best in terms of pure quality. Nothing in rock music surpasses Dancing in the Moonlit Knight in terms of vocal melody writing and is the best example of "continuous flowing melodies" which is my standard in judging melodic writing. The only thing stopping the song being number one song of all time is that I'm not a fan of some of the prog elements of that piece.
Trespass vocal melody is of the same standard as Selling England/Foxtrot or any peak Beatles/Kinks/Beach Boys album and hence the high rating.
I'm not too sure how people listen to something like Looking For Something and not think this is one of the greatest vocal melodies in pop music.
I was the person who wrote a post saying that Visions of Angels is a better "love triangle" song than Layla. I also think that situation where Peter Gabriel is singing lyrics by Phillips having a crush on his wife to be incredibly fascinating.
Imagine having Eric Clapton writing Layla and then having George Harrison singing the lyrics.
I'm not too sure whether it is the greatest "love triangles" in rock as I only know of two songs that is about a real life love triangle.
