"that weird anti-religion film he did that reminded me of Gummo"
Not sure which one you're talking about- maybe "Palindromes"? It was mostly about a young girl who wants to get pregnant running away from home but it did have a sequence where she winds up with Jesus freaks who take care of disabled kids or something like that. Anyway, that was one of the main "goofy" ones I was referring to, the other being "Life During Wartime", which was a sequel to "Happiness" which was similarly bizarre and artsy but even lamer- not really anything to recommend about that one (barely remember it, actually).
You've recommended that first film of his and compared it to Woody which piqued my interest but I haven't checked it out yet- doesn't look like it's on YouTube...
