Nothing in this film works- it's not creepy or suspenseful, you can see the lame twist coming a mile away and none of the cast members can even seem to muster a decent performance. It's such a thin, cliched story that I have trouble believing someone even wanted to adapt it as a film in the first place.
Hide and Seek
Hard to believe that De Niro got talked into doing this. What the ####, Bob? Gimmicky, predictable and not the least bit scary.
Stranger Than Paradise
Bleak minimalism which manages to remain fairly engaging thanks to the strong, natural performances, the uncomfortably familiar dialogue and Jarmusch's artful eye. Gotta be in the mood for it but if you are, it's pretty effective.
Brody and Grace are both woefully miscast but a film like this isn't really about the characters anyway. Just mindlessly entertaining sci-fi action with an appealingly gimmicky premise: future convicts are sent to "death row" i.e. a forested planet where The Predators like to hunt. Could have been better but was a nice diversion.
