I never got to Still Cruisin' on my Beach Boys deep dive since it's not on Spotify, and I didn't need an excuse to stop at that point. But you made me want to listen to "Make It Big", and it's pretty fun. The synths at the beginning are very Van Halen "Jump". Ooh and now there's a sax break. Yeah, I'll probably never listen to this again, but it reminds me I've still got a bunch of '80s ELO albums to listen to.
Yeah, part of the problem with the Kinks post-Sleepwalker is that they kind of lost their charm. When the melodies and riffs are good, it's fine, but when they're not it always just feels bland. I think your list includes the best songs though I'd add "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" on there - sure, it includes a blatant Stones ripoff, but I still enjoy it.
Their live album One For The Road includes a bunch of Low Budget stuff for what it's worth. I haven't heard it in a while, even though I own it (a friend of mine in high school bought it because "Lola" was on the tracklist, but instead of the studio version he was looking for he got a one-minute live singalong. I took pity and traded him my copy of Lola Versus Powerman Etc. for it.)
