I appreciate that they were going for a throwback monster movie for modern audiences- I just wish it was scarier. I mean, the monster looks like Shrek. Still, it's entertaining in a cheap thrills kinda way.
The River Wild
Manipulative and borderline trashy but still an entertaining thriller. Could have easily stumbled into cheesy schlock but basically manages to avoid this, largely due to the cast (particularly Streep, Bacon and Strathairn), who are more talented than the cast of a film like this has any right to be. In fact, I'm puzzled why nobody ever thought to release a sequel with a title like "River Wild 2: River Wilder" or "River Wild 2: The Paddling".
In the Line of Fire
Not really a "political thriller" guy but this was pretty enjoyable. Eastwood delivers one of his better performances but Malkovich steals the show (he really is great at playing psychos, isn't he) and of course it all builds to an OTT chase scene but again, this is style operating at a higher level than most films of this type.
