Vampires- read about this a bit too seems interesting..
Nocturnal Animals- Kinda liked how this sounded and maybe I'll check it out. You're making me curious about the opening sequence.
Black Dog- This sounds cool too! Probably seen it on HBO or video rental a long time ago..
I honestly liked hair metal as a kid so I have some experience listening to some of this crap. I think my mom and dad and my dads brother who would come visit a lot really liked this garbage so I got exposed to it at a young age in the 80s.
Motley Crue - never liked these guys but I guess they're pretty heavy for this genre. Maybe I'd appreciate them now? I dunno, but it annoys me whenever they're on the radio.
Def Leppard - This was actually one of my first fave bands as a 8 year old kid or whatever. I had all their albums on cassette in 1988 or whenever. I loved Hysteria, Pyromania and a handful of songs here and there on other albums. I revisited them a few years ago and I still appreciate some of their stuff.
Pyromania - pretty cool for goofy rock. "Rock Rock Till You Drop" is ridiculous, and it does sound like some kiddy AC/DC or some shit, but its hilarious. I like this one still. "Stagefright" is one song no one really mentions that I dig the sound of.
Hysteria - Yeah overproduced as ####, one of the biggest overproduced albums of the 80s but so many catchy songs. I still dig it quite a bit and its a nice 80s time capsule in general. "Dont Shoot Shotgun" is a nice deep cut.
Agreed on Extreme (More Than Words and "Hole Hearted" are the only songs I can find from them that are really great) - You're making me want to hear that Whitesnake album too when I shouldn't be wasting my time with this crap! I remember being into Skid Row as a kid too but most of this stuff I'm not familiar with or was not really into when I was a kid. Hated a bunch of these bands back then and now.
I did listen to Warrant as a kid too and had their first 3 albums. Cherry Pie might actually be one of the first, if not the first, CDs I ever bought which is something sad and embarrassing! Whatever, theyre not the worst in the world (besides the song "Cherry Pie" itself) some of their stuff is OK I guess.
Not too familiar with Brit pop but that looks like a good beginner list.
Id like to check out that Emmit Rhodes album. Also another good list of power pop to check out. I'm surprised you didn't like the Fountains Of Wayne album, but maybe you'll like the others.
I don't remember anyone caring about Green River. Mad Season I've meant to really give a good listen to as well but I was also thinking it may be boring. But it is such a great one-off thing that I am glad it exists.
Melvin's "Houdini" is amazing and one of my favorite of their albums. Then again I probably should hear their earlier stuff.
I downloaded the Mother Love Bone album recently but didnt get to much of it yet. It sounds kind of cool, just funk-metal pop kind of thing mostly, which probably isn't our cup of tea in general. Might be worth hearing I think though, another interesting thing that exists.
Been meaning to get to some of these other bands like Screaming Trees too (and Mark Lanegan solo in general).
