Off of Royal Scam I like "Caves Of Altamira," "Kid Charlemagne" and the grim little title track at the end. I don't recall hating "The Fez" like George did. It's a bit lesser than their others but I'm glad I bothered to hear it.
Oh god, "Your Own Worst Enemy." The quintessential dumbass fratboy college-comedy-movie-soundtrack rock song of the early 00s? I kind of like it now, but I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to it then (unlike, y'know, Yes and Rush.)
VDGG's debut album, with its pleasant hippie-pastoral major-key feel (though Hammill is still being Hammill) is an absolute must, because its vibe is completely different from all other VDGG albums. No grunting medieval sax, no tuneless organ soloing crap, just pleasant vibes mostly. I highly recommend.
