Again, I'm just generally not a Prince fan but he's arguably at his best when he's sexier and/or funkier than he is on "Purple Rain". That's partly why I prefer "Dirty Mind"- and it's just a more interesting and consistently engaging album. But FWIW my favorite Prince song is "Kiss" (though "Raspberry Beret" is up there too) and due to my generally lukewarm feelings about him, I think of him more as a compilation artist rather than album artist. But again, no arguments re: him objectively being a musical genius and yeah that definitely includes his shredding abilities (apparently Carlos Santana was his main guitar influence).
"Confirmed that Pugeye thinks Caravan's "In the Land of Grey and Pink" is the best prog album ever."
Heh nah that's not even my favorite Caravan album. It's great and everything but "If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You" is much better. And that one's my 2nd favorite prog album after Soft Machine's "Volume 2". But that's also partly because I don't really consider The Mothers of Invention prog (have argued with Matt about that a few times) but if they qualify, "Uncle Meat" would maybe edge out the Soft Machine album.
