In 2041, you can look back at this list see "Wow, Aretha Franklin was #1. Now 'Respect' is at #13 and 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' is now #1 because Keith Richards just died. And this other old song moved up and this other old song moved down. There's an Adele song on the list now."
Even though the songs are old, their ranking on a list makes for a snapshot of the opinions of a certain time and that's interesting to somebody, I guess.
I still have zero emotions myself, though.
