I think albums are still relevant, especially for an artist as big as Drake, although they are certainly less relevant than they were 30+ years ago. The issue TonyV points to is that the methodology for the singles charts and listener habits has made it so that they don't really capture what they did before. In 1991-1992, the singles charts didn't capture that were tons of people listening to Nevermind nonstop - however, basing everything off of streaming data means that comparable listens are captured for an artist like Taylor Swift for the singles charts after her album comes out.
