Sometimes I fear that the Pitchfork backlash makes a lot of people not want to listen to good music, though. it sort of works both ways. Just because The 'Fork plugs something doesn't mean it's garbage. Like, Devendra Banhart is a pretty good artist... harmless, really, but some nice stuff. Oldham's a legend who did much of his work pre-2000. And there's good, interesting dance pop like The Knife that P4K spoke about a lot that shouldn't be under the umbrella of all the endless, boring similar type of music that became so prevalent in the last 20 years.
I guess, in summary, we're not college kids and don't have to worry about Pitchfork sheep anymore... the site has still given me some good recommendations over the years of stuff I wouldn't have bothered to try to listen to otherwise, and hey, top ## lists can be fun.
