there's also the fact that the witch is an actual character which is central to the plot whereas the merman in "The Lighthouse" was just a brief (and clumsily executed) fantasy sequence. As for "spooky stuff", there wasn't *any* in "The Lighthouse" that I can remember (truly confused re: what the "vision of hell" is supposed to reference- the 2 dudes going goofy and losing track of time?). It shouldn't qualify as a horror film, not even psychological horror. And that's not a dealbreaker (said the same about "Lamb" which I mostly enjoyed it) but it really didn't haver much to offer in general IMO.
How bout "Uncut Gems"? Watch that one last night and had mixed feelings. It was such an unpleasant and anxiety-inducing film in so many ways (even the soundtrack seemed geared towards causing discomfort) but I guess that was mostly intentional? I guess the cast was good and I was pretty engaged though I wish there had been at least 1 person to root for and that it was less predictable than it wound up being.
