I'll just leave 3 recs (not all tropicalia) here, and Pug can chime in later, I guess.
Arthur Verocai, self-titled 1972 record
Caetano Veloso, self-titled 1969 record
Os Afrosambas de Baden e Vinicius
You'll have to put in some effort to get the lay of the land, but I think if you're responding positively to any of the music of those three, you'd be on the right track. For me, the journey has been majorly worth it... I don't go too long without playing my favorite Brazilian stuff from the '60s and '70s.
A lot of Brazilian stuff may seem lightweight at first listen... but I think you might enjoy the journey of digging around for what sounds you like best. Plus, you like languages and would probably get a kick out of learning snatches of the Portuguese... anyway, I'm always happy to provide guidance, and surely Pugeye will do so, as well. It's worth the legwork!
