So did I
RYM review below (4 stars out of 5). Generally agree but re: "No mention of "Murder Mystery", which I suspect partly is that it undercuts the narrative that the VU was becoming a more normal rock band without Cale/Warhol" um they didn't discuss too many of the specific songs so not sure why they'd single out that one, since it's never been one of their most popular. And the narrative you mention is mostly correct- "Murder Mystery" is pretty much a fluke that doesn't really fit on the self-titled album and the band generally *did* get more accessible as it progressed.
As for Lou being "the main asshole" is that even an opinion at this point? Seems like it's basically a well-known fact. But yeah, I also wondered how the doc would have been different if Lou had participated or if he would have even agreed to do so.
The Velvet Underground
The documentary that VU fans want and deserve. Lots of great archival footage, Warholian aesthetic, entertaining talking heads etc. All 4 albums are covered but most of the running time is focused on that first album and everything that led up to it and I wouldn't have it any other way.
