Isn't this mostly just true to the extent that every superhero story is basically the same? I think a bigger problem is that the stuff that distinguishes Dune is 1) the stuff that makes it hard to adapt into a movie that is sufficiently easy to follow 2) stuff that isn't condusive to creating the next Star Wars/Lord of the Rings franchise 3) stuff that Dune itself lifted from Lawrence of Arabia, and that is mostly absent from the movie versions for whatever unjustifiable reason.

I guess the movie is going to turn into a big enough hit to have a second one, but not filming them both at once seems like a terrible idea. I understand the reason and it makes some kind of sense, but with it feeling so incomplete it seems like a bad idea to have a multi-year delay. This seems like a case where less than a year is desirbable.
