How do you like Key Lime Pie?
It's a really odd album to me considering their other work - it really feels like Lowery decided "ok, we're making a Real Album now" and started suddenly writing immensely detailed and layered lyrics. I guess there were a few lyrically complex songs on previous albums but they seemed like something a smart college kid could write in a stoned evening rather than meditations on death and lost love and so on. The drawback is that the lightness and deftness of the music kinda disappears, it's impressive but very studied. "The Humid Press of Days" is musically pretty ugly in places but those lyrics hit pretty hard after watching my grandmother stay alive into her late 90s.
Anyway I think "Sweethearts" and "All Her Favorite Fruit" are stunning, among my favorite songs of the decade, and I love the first half of "June." Lowery sure likes songs about hating nice weather.
