I wasn't aware the "automatic" recommendations existed, let alone the "Sonemic Challenge" (still visit RYM pretty often but generally steer clear of the more interactive features). I just knew other users could recommend stuff because I get notified when that happens. I ignore most of them but have found some cool stuff that way like "Helium" by Pram.
There's a fair amount of various electronic/techno subgenres and Americana on my Sonemic Challenge list as well as some punk and metal so it seems like they've also got me pegged. But they did also include a spiritual jazz album by Randy Weston (one of my least favorite jazz subgenres but still somewhat promising). They also included a zeuhl album by Eider Stellaire and like most folks, I automatically associate zeuhl with Magma (listened to a few of their albums but never been a huge fan) and TIL that the subgenre was actually "created" by Christian Vander.
