I'm cheating; this is actually two songs but they run together. This is from a weird transitional album between balladeering and R&B and it doesn't quite work, yet it does. "Down the Road" is simultaneously rollicking and funky; the band had such an endearing dorkiness about them. They're like Rush for pussies.
Another medley. It's a shame everyone only knows the chorus from "Macho Man" and not the top-notch minor-key verses. "I Am What I Am" is a glorious gay anthem that could be a glorious anything-anthem.
Another good one from the brothers Gibb, from the same album as above (it's in my rotation). The album has a strong Elton John vibe.
Just wait till that ####ing chorus hits.
From the new Soft Cell album (it's good, not great; only heard it twice). It's a Pet Shop Boys collaboration and is the lead single, and sounds like a total fusion of their styles. Remarkable.
