Family has been tight-lipped except to say it wasn't covid or cancer. Obviously (from his final album) he knew he was dying, but all he ever let out was sleep apnea. A few days before the end he cancelled a web concert (the first I was planning to watch, dammit) because he wasn't feeling well.
He smoked a lot and drank like a fish (hmm, could that be where he got his stage name?)
