Music Babble

And by known I don't mean just met. I met Joe Satriani (and his back-up band) at an airport once. He was really nice and mellow and with his wife and new-born baby. This doesn't count.

I also briefly encountered Scott Ian after a concert in Portland one time. He and a friend of mine exchanged some smart-ass remarks. I got an autograph even though he didn't even look me in the eye. This also doesn't count.

But I went to college in Ellensburg, WA, home of the Screaming Trees. No, I never met the late Mark Lanegan. But I did know their first drummer, Mark Pickerel. He owned a local record shop called Rodeo Records. I was a good customer of his. Even if his sales deals ended, he would "grandfather me in" to a deal if I wanted to buy a discount CD. Plus, he was a chill guy to drink beer with at the local tavern.

I hope he's still doing okay.
