At least with William Shatner there is some adequacy because he is actually not pretending to be a singer and simply reciting the lyrics of the song treating it as poetry. He is theoretically qualified as an actor to do spoken word poetry album and hence he knows his limitations.

Leonard Nimoy on the other hand actually tries to sing which shows far more cluelessness then the entirety of William Shatner's career

Although I do find Highly illogical to be campy fun and he does spoken words for half of the song (although there is some singing unfortunately) and he does kinda play into the character of Spock



I also think A Visit To A Sad Planet (where he plays Spock character) to be some what emotionally moving even if it has a predictable ending
