because most of the answers in this thread belong in the latter category but are objectively well-crafted pop songs. Hall & Oates are a perfect example- am only familiar with their hits and I'm sure they probably have some album cuts that suck but in general, their songs are solid from a songwriting, performance and production standpoint.
