Over the years, especially in my thirties and forties, I have purchased a so-called "classic" CD that I had never heard before. Hearing it fresh, I immediately fall in love with it and listen to it almost every day for weeks or maybe months on end. Then I will finally put it down.
Six to eighteen months later, I remember liking it. And I will put it on again. And all of a sudden, it sounds like nothing. It doesn't have the same impact on me as it did when I first started listening to it.
Worst case scenario:
That Modern Lovers album. It really seemed to rock hard at first. Now, I just don't like very many of the songs, and I can't stand the singer's voice.
Blur - The Great Escape: Not terrible, but I can't believe I considered it one of my one hundred favorite albums at one time. A lot of this is just silly, and it goes on FOREVER.
Less-worst case (I still like these, but never listen to them anymore):
Velvet Underground: S/T
Dead Kennedys: Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Brian Eno: Another Green World
Brian Eno: Before and After Science
Faith No More: Angel Dust
Fugazi: The Argument
Peter Gabriel: "Melt"
Living Colour: Time's Up
I could go on, but I've reached the point in the alphabet where I'm going to stop.
I hope the same thing does not happen with "Animals."
