L'Affaire Louis' Trio - Mobilis In Mobile. From the '90s, very Beatlesesque, probably the best of these. Apparently they collaborated with Colin Moulding of XTC, which definitely makes sense given their style.
Gerard Manset. This guy's discography is confusing, it seems like the versions on Spotify might be later rerecorded/remixed/reassembled versions. But anyway, some of his stuff like La Mort D'Orion is a little like a combo of chanson and space rock. Reminds me oddly of Olivia Tremor Control although I don't know if that comparison would hold up to more scrutiny.
Pulsar. Pretty space-folk-prog, gives me some Pink Floyd vibes.
Alain Bashung - Fantaisie Militaire. From the '90s. This gives me a lot of Pulp vibes, which makes sense since both Bashung and Jarvis Cocker were probably trying to be Serge Gainsbourg, and both did reasonably good jobs of it.
Renaud - Place De Ma Mob aka Laisse Béton. Feels to me a bit like a combo of the French chanson tradition and Bob Dylan.
Laurence Vanay - Galaxies. Groovy prog-lite, not unlike some of Camel's late-70s stuff.
Lio - Lio. Primitivish synthpop, fun. Apparently she collaborated with Sparks a bit.
Noir Desir. Serious somber '80s rock but well done. Sadly, in a conjunction with current events, the main dude in 2003 drunkenly murdered his girlfriend, Marie Trintignant, the daughter of Jean who just died a few weeks ago.
Taxi Girl. They seem the better of the French bands I listened to that sounded like they really wanted to be The Cure, with Indochine the lesser one.
