Flaming Lips - agreed with you completely about this album. Def the first really good Lips album but I think it's kind of overrated. I didn't care much about Hit To Death either, the next one. Then they got really ####ing amazing with Transmissions Of The Satellite Heart and everything after basically until Soft Bulletin. But yeah I feel like the first half blows away the second, and some weaker songs mixed in. I like Take Me Ta Mars though, sounds pretty similar enough to Mushroom. Obviously not as good but a serviceable enough cover of it. I'm sure Drozd would have done better though.
I'm sure the Apples In Stereo was the first indie rock to veer towards tweet. It was a year before Of Montreal and any other tweeish based indie rock I can think of. Those first few albums were pretty good as fun catchy indie rock, I guess on similar order to Kevin Barnes although Kevin did psychedelic stuff a lot better. Don't remember what album that song "Seems So" is on but that is a great tune
