I wanted to say it's a warmup for a better movie, as these things almost always are, but who does a three hour film for that? I didn't hate the film but nobody here even seemed to begin to want to talk about it, except Pugeye who hated it even more than you did.
The Bradley Cooper scenes in Licorice Pizza weren't that entertaining and I didn't know who Jon Peters really was (apparently he wasn't terribly happy about this, though). Sean Penn's character is William Holden and his scenes with the Haim girl apparently reuse the dialogue from Clint Eastwood's 1973 film Breezy. Ask Joe about this, because he's actually seen this film and I haven't.
The relationship in Phantom Thread seemed far more toxic, because the Cooper Hoffman character was harmlessly amiable whereas the DDL character was a dislikable twat.
My mother had a big ugly VHS copy of the Cane Toads movie but I never watched it, except for that scene where people are driving over them on the road and they go splat. Of course a great Simpsons episode came out of that.
