I didn't know about Zelda 2's reputation until the internet, and I mean like the AVGN episode I didn't see till several years he made the video. I think I beat it with Game Genie, so I'm a dirty cheater, but I've seen it through. When I watched a playthrough a few months ago at least 30 or 45 minutes were dedicated to farm experience in the second screen of a particular dungeon (erp, they're called palaces here, I guess.) That would certainly help in the game, though you have to get there first!
I really liked that game, even more than the first, difficulty aside -- I beat the first one "fairly" and had to use a Game Genie to get anywhere in Zelda 2.
I miss being a kid and looking at the Hyrule maps in the Zelda 2 strategy guides and look at all the cool places, imagining it as a whole world and made little stories about the game. Fall of the Foot Clan made such an impression from a Nintendo Power article that I can still remember how cool it looked to this day.
Those are actually the only two Zeldas I've played. I've wanted to play A Link to the Past but I haven't gotten around to it yet. (Actually I did play Ocarina of Time and didn't like it, partly because I was philosophically opposed to the lack of a jump button. Apparently the actual game is good.)
Actually my PC is in limbo so I'm not playing anything right now. I built a pretty good one but it's not recognizing the disk drive to install Windows onto, so I'm handing this one over to my brother-in-law to take a look at. Result: I need my phone (and CD player!) for internet and music because there's no way I'm setting up the old computer again. Phones are amazing things.
