Ebert didn't like the late stuff, but it's not like he was a big fan of non-narrative or avant-garde stuff anyways. Plenty of other critics - like Rosenbaum - are supporters of '10s Godard.
For an artist, it's hard to imagine anyone who stuck so stubbornly to their own vision and had so much control over their work. What's a better career than that?
