But FWIW "The Martian Chronicles" was my all time favorite book for many years after I had it assigned in middle school. And this is from somebody who generally doesn't like sci-fi (though as most geeks will point out, Bradbury is more of a fantasy author). Sure, my lofty opinion of it partly came from the fact that for a long time (mostly during my drinking years), I didn't read for fun unless you count comics/graphic novels. But I revisited it a few years ago and it held up well as a thoroughly engaging, often quite amusing and surprisingly plausible chronology of humans colonizing Mars and the inevitable aftermath.
"Dandelion Wine" is on my list of stuff to read but your assessment is pretty much what I was expecting so it's not a priority.
