I was assigned to read "The Martian Chronicles" in middle school and to this day, it remains one of my all time favorites (I'm generally not into sci-fi but Bradbury is a major exception- he's more fantasy anyway). So that was the best book I was ever assigned in school (sad, isn't it?) but the teacher also had us watch this thing, a cheesy made for TV series which has none of the book's magic and should be avoided at all costs. It even ruined one of my favorite scenes in the book by adding a line about "poisoned pudding". If you've seen this, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you *haven't* seen this, DON'T.
Somebody on this board (you?) recommended that "Soft Rains" short after they found out about my love for the book and yeah I agree that unlike the TV movie, it's effective and does justice to the source material.
