I think, aside from the slide work, Brian generally takes rhythm and Keith is lead. It's actually kind of hard to hear Brian on the aforementioned live version of Route 66.

A good one to get a general idea is It's All Over Now: here's the sh*tty lipsynched French TV version (fake-playing w/ strap-less guitars), but you'll get the idea of their usual approach: Keith lightly picking the chords and taking the solo, Brian plodding along with those thicker chords underneath (as if I have actual musical knowledge to describe this properly!)
