Not saying much because I pretty much thin he's a hack. But while it's admittedly partly nostalgia because I saw it really young at a friend's house (one of the first real horror movies I ever saw, actually) so the concept of crazy slumlords mutilating and imprisoning children freaked me out and the weird tonal stuff you mentioned wasn't as glaring. But I recently showed it to my gf and while I think it holds up well, I'd forgotten how cartoonish a lot of it is (bonus points for Nadine and Big Ed from "Twin Peaks" though).

I found "The Changeling" to be excruciatingly dull and not the least bit deserving of its reputation.

"The Omen" is pretty stupid. Decent concept, shitty execution.

Barely remember "The Mothman Prophesies" but at the time I considered it one of the worst films I'd ever seen. The legend of the mothman is somewhat intriguing but the movie's an amateurish bore- missed opportunity.

I recently asked for horror movie recs because I'd been disappointed by a couple horror films I'd watched and "The Conjuring" was one of them. James Wan makes Craven look like Hitchcock IMO.
