Japanese fiction

I'm going to Japan (Tokyo/Kyoto) in December and hopefully can get through some appropriate corresponding reading before/during the trip. Anyone read anything good from Japan recently? Mostly looking for literature, but if there's any interesting/weird non-fiction stuff I'm open to that as well.
Please no Murakami, Mishima, or Kobo Abe please, I'm not ####ing around here.
