I agree that it's not a movie about "complex understanding," but is it really about battering Nazis with impunity? Is that why they included the sequence with the cow? And is it really a narrowly righteous fantasy of revenge? I have the same problem with that accusation as I have with the defense of Last House on the Left as a serious treatment of grief. It takes up so little of the film, and is so eclipsed by other elements, that it wouldn't have occurred to me on my own to think that that was what anyone liked about it.
