Some of you must have watched House of the Dragon and/or The Rings of Power, no? We're still halfway through Rings. I'm curious to hear some of you bash these two fantasy series. I'm enjoying them both well enough ... not taking them too seriously.
Dragons found its footing slowly; I think now that it's settled into one time period, it'll be a lot more focused for the second season.
and the latest LotR is... well, what I expected: sort of a focus-group Middle-Earth show, with a lot of freelancing. I'm not one of those intense Tolkien types to whine about black dwarves and puerto rican elves or what have you... but there sure are a lot of new characters and locations they made up for this. forgive me, but I like to find these areas on Tolkien's maps! they are basing this off, I think, post-Silmarillion stories about Sauron's return and rise to power. as with all LotR stuff, any time it tries to generate emotion, it falls flat... I dunno, I'll stick with it, and the sets look beautiful. hopefully it picks up in pace and intensity a bit going forward and into the next seasons.
We've also been watching two funny shows, Our Flag Means Death and What We Do in the Shadows. Flag is pretty funky... definitely a comedy with a different perspective. it's not so laugh-out-loud, but very watchable.
And Shadows is very laugh-out-loud and also very very watchable. easy to burn through like 5 or 6 episodes in one session (we sprung for Hulu Premium so we don't have to deal with commercials).
long story short, I guess my wife and I really like Flight of the Conchords-derived comedy.
