First recorded outbreaks in 1918 were in Haskell County, Kansas (southwest part of the state, and it's the flattest county in Kansas) and then there was an outbreak at Fort Riley which is where I live (central eastern part of the state.) I didn't know much about this until I was in my 20s, which shows how much I know--I only knew faintly *of* it. Sort of like how I didn't know anything about that 1981 hotel walkway collapse in Kansas City that killed 117 people (including Flaming Lips drummer Kliph Scurlock's mother) until I started listening to The Terror in 2014
